Our mission is to engage, enlighten and entertain audiences. For more than 20 years Primitive Entertainment has been leading the documentary community with integrity and passion, creating compelling and daring stories that have the ability to change the way we see the world around us.
Recent awards include a Genie for Best Short Documentary, a Gemini for Best Performing Arts Series, a Genie for Best Feature Length Documentary, a Webby Award for Best Individual Documentary, the SXSW Interactive award for Activism, the Toyota Earth Grand Prize at the Tokyo International Film Festival, multiple Pixie Awards for Animation and Effects, and an Emmy Nomination for Outstanding Nature Programming.
Primitive Entertainment's founding partner, Kevin McMahon, was honoured with the Canadian Eco Hero Award at the Planet In Focus Environmental Film Festival, 2011.
The company’s work has screened at leading film festivals world wide, including Hot Docs, Berlin, SXSW, Traverse City, Vancouver, Toronto, Bergen, Munich, Sydney, Tokyo, IDFA, DOXA and the Museum of Modern Art, amongst others.
